Cheap Taping It Together?

Cheap tape is useless. If you’ve tried saving a few pennies or bought cheap tape for convenience’s sake, then you know how frustrating it is to rip off a series of non-sticking pieces. Other products, like Post-It Notes, stay useful when the back loses its stickiness. You can still write a short message on the paper, but useless tape is simply a waste of precious time and money. So is this:

Sorry, you won’t get those minutes back. The video proves my point. Don’t try to make tape into something that it’s not. Don’t twist it into cute little gadgets or find elaborate methods for obvious or unnecessary labeling. Tape is tape. Use it for what is, understand its limitations and move on. You can’t make everything that’s useless into something useful. What’s the useless, time-waster preventing you from improving the important pieces of life?

The Big Pay-Out

It is finished. The gifts are given, the lights and trees are gone. Christmas is over. This last billion-dollar-lottery was like a second holiday celebration. Conversations centered around the ticket holders’ wish lists. Excitement and anticipation filled the air. And just like that, they selected the winning number, three people won, and hopes plummeted. The mega-money dream ended.

Now we’re smack in the middle of January with the empty, gray skies and bitter cold. Okay, it’s not that cold, but you get the picture. What can we do to recapture our enthusiasm? Here’s a suggestion:

Three little words: appreciate the moment. It sounds like a simple idea, but it depends on what we’re living through right now. Regardless of whether we’re in a good or bad season, we’ll never experience this moment again. How can you begin living each moment to the fullest?ere’Here

Which Way to Go?

Is it true that lessons we learn in our youth don’t always stick? For some reason, I keep going the wrong way when people give me directions. More than once someone said, “Turn right.” I turned left. On another occasion I heard, “Turn left.” I turned right. Hmmm. My teacher must have taught left vs. right in my kindergarten class, so I was half-amused, half-puzzled as to why I kept going the wrong way.

I came up with three possible explanations:

  1. Heard, but never actually listened to the directions.
  2. Thought I knew better.
  3. Learned, but forgot left vs. right.

I choose a combination of answers one and two. So now I’ll focus on listening more and resist thinking I know it all. Lesson learned? We’ll see. Here’s a guy with another lesson to pass on:

That short clip was full of good advice. Take what you need from it. Thinking about your own  childhood experiences, what’s the best thing you learned that still helps you today?
