Hoping for a Miracle

Everyone’s dreaming about winning the biggest lottery jackpot in U.S. history. Interview people in ticket lines and they’ll list the kinds of cars, homes, and vacations they would buy, and how they would quit their jobs, retire, and donate money to relatives and friends, if they win. Are their dreams possible? The lottery bureau calculates a one in about three hundred million chance of winning. It’s safe to say the majority of people standing in long lines to buy a lottery ticket won’t see the money. Still, they stand, hoping for a chance at a new life. This lady has hopes, too:

 Hope is a powerful force with two different sources. Our hopes rest either on firm beliefs or doubtful fairy tales.What are you hoping for and which kind of hope is it?          

Chasing Your Dream

How do you chase a dream? For Tatiana, owner of beatfacehoney, it began when she mixed social media with makeup and posted demonstrations on You Tube. Given our access to social media, anyone using the appropriate tools can establish a brand, and maybe even build an empire. Be careful not to pooh-pooh small beginnings. Day after day, we head off to a job we either enjoy or dislike.  A popular saying suggests that if you love your job, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. What about you? If there’s a dream you’re holding on to—yet afraid to purse—go for it! Dare to take a least one step forward. Maybe that means taking a class, establishing a website, or setting up a table to sell your product or service at community festival. It's your time. What’s your dream?    

Unfurling Dreams

Imagine that you have a passion for singing. Perhaps you sing in the shower or while driving, but you probably wouldn’t belt out your tunes on an airplane. If you follow the news, you’ve probably heard about the lady who did. Many passengers and the flight crew didn’t appreciate the woman’s performance. It sounded like several problems occurred—the volume at which she sang and the fact that she wouldn’t stop singing when asked didn’t help her situation. A judge on American Idol would have told her, “It was a little pitchy, dog, and maybe not the best song to highlight your talent.” If that was one of the woman’s favorite songs and she loved singing—isn’t it hard to bury your passion?

I hope the singing lady’s dreams weren’t dashed and deferred. She may have anticipated a standing ovation, instead only two people stood up—the songstress (leaving in cuffs) and the federal air marshal(escorting her away). Later, the woman said that diabetes caused her to act inappropriately, but I still believe she loves to sing. Like in the golfing video, (I haven’t seen the whole movie) who practices golf in the dark? Sometimes you can’t let location deter your passion.  What’s your passion and are you unfurling it or burying it?
